Mince pies, Christmas pudding, turkey and stuffing - it's the same every year! Fancy a change? Us too. Here are three ways we're staying on-trend to jazz up our own Christmas catering this year:
1) Make it 'swicy'.
Possibly the worst word ever invented, 'swicy' is a combination of 'sweet' and 'spicy'. From classic sweet chilli to maple and gochujang, swicy flavours have been everywhere in 2024, and it doesn't look like they're going anywhere this festive season. To bring this to your own Christmas table, why not try a baked Camembert as a starter? Put some sprigs of fresh rosemary in the top, bake it for twenty minutes, then top it with a drizzle of hot honey and some cracked black pepper. Paired with some Guild Of Dough baguette rounds, it's a great sharing dish that'll get everyone talking.
2) Deutsch? Aber ja!
Chalets, Christmas markets, and Glühwein - all unmissable parts of Christmas both here in Bristol and in the Alps. For a little taste of Germany, you can't go wrong with some chocolate-dipped Lebkuchen, or, for a real tea-time indulgence, pick up a classic Guild Of Dough stollen. With a marzipan centre and an oh-so-soft outside, it's the perfect mid-afternoon treat. Move over Panettone - Wilkommen to the stollen!
3) Childhood classics
Nostalgic flavours have been having a huge resurgence this year, so Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate your own childhood throwbacks. You can't go wrong with a classic gingerbread or mince pie - but, for a more retro take on things, head back to the 90s with one of Guild Of Dough's chocolate chip cookies. Why not leave one out for Santa on Christmas Eve? It'll guarantee* you a place on the 'nice' list!
